Protesting the incompetence of the HK Government

I’ve decided that someone has to start standing up and making a noise about how absurdly incompetent the HK Government is in its response to one person testing positive for a mild form of the flu.

To this end I’m trying to get together a few people together to mount a protest outside the MetroPark Hotel with a view to getting the attention of the international media and making a laughing-stock of the HK so-called leadership.

I’m in the process of preparing briefing material which can be used to support interviews / soundbites with the media. I’m looking for people who would be able quickly to produce banners with the key messages in English and Chinese.

And I need bodies to wave the banners and make the case to the media. I’m not looking for lots – under the Public Order Ordinance we would need to keep the numbers under 30 at any one time to avoid needing advance permission. I’m happy to do all the negotiating with the police commander on the ground and so on, and I will try to use my contacts at the FCC to get the media interested, but I need enough people to stand behind a banner and fill a camera shot for CNN etc.

I understand that citizens / Permanent Residents make be happier to do this than people on Conditional Visas.

So who would be interested to help me make the case? Any time you can spare gratefully received. It would be good if the site can have at least some presence until this ludicrous imprisonment of 300 people is lifted, but whatever time you can spare would be appreciated. I think I need to be reasonably sure of having at least 10 people there for a few hours each day for it to have any impact.

Who’s in?

And does anyone know where to get banners produced in a hurry?

In my humble opinion, I think you are suffering from a bigger ‘disease’ than the flu. It’s called the former “B.R.T.W” shit. And I’m glad Hong Kong got rid of those. Probably/hopefully HK will also get rid of people like you. Just go back to Britty flipland?
    Enjoy, by jove.

Ah – the ad hominem attack – the usual resort of people who are incapable of putting a rational argument together. No idea what BRTW is though…

Hong Kong is my home. And wherever I make my home then I will do what I can to improve it, as everyone should in my opinion. No country is perfect, but Hong Kong is better than most, especially when the current administrative classes just stick to administering and don’t attempt to lead.

It’s easy to criticize the approach of the local government. It’s done all over the world and often rightly so. In this case it seems to be like having a cheap go just for the sake of it.
Did the govt here overreact? Probably yes and hindsight is such a great way to confirm it.
Did they the right thing? YES because they ACTED.
Don’t give me the crap about the great HK administration under the Brit rule. Just nostalgia towards an era that is gone forever. Apart from the “good-ole-boys-colonizer” mentality, looking down on us, regular mortals, there was not much leadership shown to help the local population in those days.
Compare (just as an example) hygiene today to the former times, although you’re probably too young to have known this place in the 70s or 80s. I stand my ground by saying that the authorities are not to blame for quarantining the Wanchai Metro Park. I would have gone further by putting any one who flew in from Mexico in say 1 week before landing in Honkers, under medical surveillance till proven flu-free.
Anyway, it was your right trying to set up a protest. Seen nobody took it up says enough about its importance and relevance, now doesn’t it? It must be a great feeling to get the proof again that all others are stupid and only one person is proven smart. It also must be very lonely and cold up there.

    Yes, but what IS BRTW?
Is Jay-P by any chance Sham Shui Po Boy?

  5. You don't know me anyway Says:

I must say that JP sounds like a fool. What has any of this got to do with the colonial era?

And the quarantine was wrong, but only in hindsight, so it’s a good thing?

  6. hkorbust Says:

Jay-P seems like he needs to be put under permanent quarantine.

    Good job smog.

Why did u change my name?

  9. smog Says:

Because that’s my name, not yours…

  10. Bill Says:

You think the HK government is bad. I now live in the United Socialist States of America.

Can you stop being so pretentious. If you don’t want people to know who u are, then don’t post shit like this.

My problem is not that I don’t want people to know who I am, it is that you keep posting comments using as your alias here the alias (christep) which I use on Flyertalk, which is presumably where you came here from. I don’t understand why you want to do this, but it can only serve to confuse people.
